Tourism Information Centers
For visitors driving to Oklahoma, there are 12 convenient Tourism Information Centers located throughout the state. Each is staffed by professional travel counselors and stocked with state maps, free brochures and plenty of hot, fresh coffee. Some centers offer gift shops where you can find Oklahoma souvenirs of every sort. Regardless of which highway you are traveling, you'll find a Tourism Information Center nearby.

Time Zone

Oklahoma is in the Central Time Zone and observes Daylight Savings Time.  The only exception to this is the Kenton area in the Panhandle; it is in the Mountain Time Zone.

Driving Information

Oklahoma is crisscrossed by three major interstates: I-35,I-40 and I-44. Turnpikes are located on I-44 and other regional areas of the state. Maximum speed limits on interstates outside of city limits are set at 70 mph, while most turnpikes allow a maximum speed limit of 75 mph. Air Service

The Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City and the Tulsa International Airport are served by major and regional domestic airlines. The Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport is served by American Eagle.

Public Transportation

AMTRAK service is available daily between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, TX. For more information, call 1-800-USA-RAIL. Both Tulsa and Oklahoma City operate a mass transit bus system, with a variety of routes throughout the metro areas.

Alcohol

Liquor by the drink is available in Oklahoma on a county option basis. In counties where liquor by the drink has been approved, licensed premises sell beer, wine and mixed drinks until 2:00 a.m. Both Oklahoma County and Tulsa County and 35 other counties offer liquor by the drink. Persons must be 21 years of age to purchase alcoholic beverages.

Climate

The climate of Oklahoma is generally mild and humid except in the far northwest where it is typically semi-arid. Summer months (May through September) can be quite warm with temperatures ranging from 80 - 100 degrees F. Winters are mild in that cold periods are of short duration and snowfall is typically light. The azaleas and redbuds bloom brilliantly in April, while mid-October to mid-November is usually the best time for fall foliage viewing. Military Information

Oklahoma is home to three air force bases and one army base. The largest of these include Tinker Air Force Base, located in Midwest City, and Fort Sill, located in Lawton. As one of three training installations in the country, Fort Sill annually processes more than 18,000 officers and enlisted students. This active working base has also been designated a National Historic Landmark, and consistently receives numerous military awards. For more information on Fort Sill, visit http://sill-www.army.mil.

The United States Air Force also maintains a strong presence in Oklahoma, with Tinker Air Force Base in central Oklahoma, Vance Air Force Base in Enid (northwest), and Altus Air Force Base in southwest Oklahoma.
